As concerned members, sponsors, and funders of the Black Business Professional Association (BBPA), we seek answers on the current Board of Directors' and Leadership team's financial and operational management of the BBPA.
Our goal is simple- to uncover & understand how funding was distributed & managed.
It is simple: we need to restore the principles of accountability and center the power of Black communities.
Members need to understand and know how the Board of Directors manages the charity to promote growth and prosperity for Black communities.
It is about Good Governance. The Board of Directors must comply with all BBPA policies and the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act all the time, not when it is convenient.
The Board of Directors has a fiduciary responsibility to all members to protect, invest in, and advance Black communities by responsibly using government and sponsorship monies, donations, and investments.
It is critical that the Board of Directors do not direct any monies for self-interests.
The Board of Directors is responsible for creating, establishing and advancing Black youth, entrepreneurs, professionals, businesses and communities and must remain independent of benefiting from any financial monies of the BBPA.
BBPA members, community partners, sponsors, and government entities must be informed of the Board of Directors' discrepancies, inconsistencies, and non-compliance with good governance. Afterall, it is about serving all members with integrity and truth.
It is critical to have a competent and experienced Board of Directors that upholds truth, best practices and good governance that serve Black communities.
We call for the removal and replacement of the Board of Directors.
The BBPA is a well-respected and valuable charity that serves Black Communities. Restoring the principles and values of the Founder, the Honourable Denham Jolly, is integral for today and the future.
As a united front of concerned members, sponsors and funders of the Black Business Professional Association (BBPA), we are deeply troubled by the apparent lack of transparency and accountability in the recent management of the BBPA by its Board of Directors and leadership team. It has come to our attention that a significant portion of its government grants, sponsor donations, and all other funding, were used to award contracts to companies without appropriate due diligence. Contracts appear to have been improperly awarded to the former President and CEO, Nadine Spencer, current and former board members, breaching BBPA's procurement and conflict of interest procedures. Furthermore, appropriate disclosures were not made to the CRA, nor were they reflected in the financial statements.
As concerned members of the BBPA, we firmly believe this organization must uphold the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and accountability in its operations as a registered charity serving Black communities.
Our objective is crystal clear – we demand an immediate member meeting to understand what has occurred, and the current Board of Directors must be promptly removed and replaced.
We call on the BBPA Board to uphold its fiduciary duty owed to the organization, be accountable to members, end the stonewalling, and embrace full transparency. Black communities deserve better.
